The Clangers are strange, long-nosed, pink, woolly creatures that live inside a small blue planet, which lies far, far away in space.

Under the dustbin-lidded craters that cover the planet’s surface is the cave system where the these strange yet cuddly extraterrestrials live. They share their world with the bizarre Soup Dragon, who lives in a soup well and provides them with their staple diet of green soup and blue string pudding; the Glow Buzzers, which supply light and tasty glow honey; and the tiny orange Froglets, magical creatures that live inside a travelling top-hat. Other beings encountered by the Clangers are the Iron Chicken, originally found in pieces and who, once reconstructed by the little planet’s inhabitants, now lives in a nest in the sky; the large, odd, blue-skinned Skymoos; and the water-providing Cloud.

Life for the Clangers is calm and peaceful, but yet they still manage to have many amazing adventures. Over the course of the two series and one special, they are visited by many strange creatures, including a wandering astronaut from Earth. And once they find a way to use the musical notes that grow on trees to propel their space boat across the stars, they boldly explore as only a Clanger can do.

The Clangers were created by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin, whose production company, Smallfilms, was responsible for some of the most well-known and well-loved children’s television ever made, including such classics as ‘Ivor the Engine’, ‘Noggin the Nog’, ‘Pogles’ / ‘Pogles Wood’ and ‘Bagpuss’. ‘The Clangers’ ran for twenty-six episodes and one special, and is still as popular today as it ever was!

But the enduring magic of the Clangers doesn't end there: in October 2013 the BBC confirmed that this classic children's show was to be resurrected in a new £5m series co-produced with US pre-school TV channel Sprout. Fifty-two episodes began transmission on CBeebies in June 2015, this time with Oliver’s son Daniel Postgate at the helm, and narrated by Michael Palin (and the legendary William Shatner for the American transmission!). These new stories are just as enchanting as the originals, bringing the Clangers into the 21st Century for a whole new audience to enjoy.
